PurposeMed is a calgary-based heathtech startup, connecting patients with healthcare providers.
I helped reshape our data architecture using Python and Dataform, optimizing data pipelines on GCP. I also led projects to make better dashboards; working cross-functionally to develop tailored dashboards and migrate them to Looker for enhanced functionality. I identified and fixed problems in the user onboarding flow, resulting in boosting sign-ups. Conducting analysis and A/B tests improved our customers’ experience when seeking help, easing the load off customer success and clinical teams. I also developed comprehensive documentation to facilitate seamless knowledge transfer within the data team and beyond.
Being part of the data team from its inception was an extremely rewarding experience. This collaborative journey with members from various departments drove impactful projects that helped reshape PurposeMed’s approach to leveraging data for growth and operational efficiency.
Data Architecture Transformation: I was actively involved in reshaping our data architecture, using tools like Python and Dataform to refine and optimize existing datasets. Using Dataform, I created and managed processes involving manipulating and organizing data, ensuring that our data pipelines were robust, scalable, and efficient on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). I also applied my working knowledge of Python and the Pandas library to manipulate more complex datasets. This comprehensive overhaul not only reflected my commitment to excellence but also underscored my role in driving transformative change within the company's data ecosystem.
Dashboard Development: Working cross-functionally, I led the development of curated dashboards tailored to the unique needs of our growth, marketing, and product teams. I initially developed dashboards using Looker Studio, but with the revamping of our overall data architecture, I migrated existing dashboards to Looker and created new ones that better suited the needs of the company. To ensure alignment with stakeholder requirements, I conducted meetings to understand their needs and facilitated sessions to educate them on utilizing the updated dashboard software. These collaborative efforts streamlined data accessibility and enhanced functionality for various departments, fostering informed decision-making and teamwork across the organization.
Onboarding Optimization: After exploring our onboarding flow, I noticed a discrepancy that resulted in some users’ experience being inaccurately assessed. My curiosity and collaborative spirit drove me to closely work with the product team to analyze the issue further. Together, we developed and executed a project resulting in a 15% increase in monthly sign-ups. This experience speaks to my ability to identify problems, collaborate effectively with teams to prioritize them, and drive solutions to fruition.
Enhanced Customer Success through A/B Testing: I conducted an analysis on our platform’s self-serve pages to understand their effectiveness and identify areas of improvement. Working closely with the product team, I conducted an A/B test to assess the performance of the proposed solution, with the winning result being the proposed solution. Through data-driven optimizations, we achieved a 10% improvement in both customer success and clinical operational metrics.
Comprehensive Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Understanding the value of proper documentation and knowledge sharing, I developed comprehensive documentation for the data team. This includes: onboarding processes, data dictionaries, assistance with unfamiliar software, and best practices. This collective effort facilitated seamless knowledge transfer within and outside of the data team.
